The School of Sew boasts a team of teachers and experts who collectively have over 150 years’ sewing and dressmaking experience. Have you always loved the idea of learning to sew, creating your own fantastic designs, but not sure where to start?

School of Sew will guide you through every step of becoming a sewing expert, even if you’ve never threaded a sewing machine, whilst developing your stitching skills and creativity.

Courses and lessons span the entire sewing spectrum incorporating curtains and blinds, dressmaking and fashion, accessories and gifts.

Flexibility is also key to us - so if there’s something not on the course menu that you are eager to learn then simply ask - the team is always willing to adapt to help bring out the best in every student.

Ultimately, we listen to our students’ needs and are not afraid to switch or change things to suit individual styles and requirements, in fact we positively encourage it as we fully recognise that this is a two-way experience.

Our lessons and courses are limited to a maximum of six scholars per session, this is to ensure a high level of personal attention and that every student gets the full benefit of their experience.

Grade 1

ESSENTIAL SEWING SKILLS WORKSHOP

Strongly recommended for complete beginners. If you’ve never used a sewing machine before you’ll need to attend this workshop before you can move on to the Beginners Course. You’ll learn basic skills and sewing knowledge which will ensure you get the most out of future courses and lessons.

The duration of this workshop is 3 hours costing £55.00 to include all materials.

BEGINNER’S DRESSMAKING COURSE

The Beginner’s Dressmaking Course runs in 4 week blocks. You’ll be amazed at how quickly your sewing abilities improve, and astounded at how much you progress.

You’ll learn how to read and use a paper pattern, how to correctly cut and handle fabrics, while developing a wide range of sewing skills and techniques.

Course Price £220 to include all materials.

Grade 2

ADVANCED COURSE

The Advanced Course runs in 4 week blocks. Your sewing capabilities and understanding of how fabrics work with specific assignments will progress and develop. Your proficiency in mastering a variety of techniques will improve, and we’ll work on a range of projects to suit your creative desires.

School of Sew Timetable

CLASSES

In addition to our courses we also run evening and daytime classes aswell as a variety of techniques workshops. The class sizes are never more than 6 scholars to ensure you receive lots of attention from our fantastic team of Tutors.

You can bring whatever project you would like to work on and your designated tutor will help you achieve your goal. We also offer advice on pattern and fabric selection for your projects.

Prices from £14.50 per hour

We run classes on the following times:-

  • Tuesday 10am - 12pm, 1pm - 4pm
  • Wednesday 10am - 12pm, 1pm - 3pm, 6pm - 9pm
  • Thursday Social Sewing 10am - 4pm
  • Friday 10am - 1pm
  • Alternate Saturday 9am - 12pm, 1pm - 4pm

WORKSHOPS

We run a variety of workshops which are usually on a Saturday afternoon and Sundays which we find is great for anyone who works during the week.
